SOCIAL COMMUNICATIONS
In the spirit of Don Bosco we shall strive as educators to pay particular attention to the problems of social communication. It is imperative for us to have a clear knowledge of this sphere in the light of the Church's teaching, and to familiarize ourselves with the understanding and use of the different types of media in view of our work of evangelization. General Objectives:
1. To study media culture and its impact/change of mentality in educative intervention.
2. To assume the various tasks related to communications as tools that facilitate the activities in the province.
2002 - 2007 REPORT
Training Courses/Seminars
1. Film and Spirituality, April 2002 for Junior Sisters given by Sr. Joyce Salvador
2. New Media and Catechesis, April 2003 for Junior Sisters and Young Seniors given by Sr. Joyce Salvador.
3. Mass Media Seminars for Formands and ACC Students as part of the school curriculum (on-going) being given by Sr. Debbie Ponsaran.
4. Sr. Nora Hernandez and Sr. Debbie Ponsaran (SOCCOM Coordinator 2005-06) animated the Educommunication group in the Echo-Seminar of the Spirituality of Communion on June 30 to July 3, 2005 in Mornese Center of Spirituality in Pansol, Calamba, Laguna. This was echoed in the communities of Cebu and Negros.
5. Media Education Seminar to Sisters in the South (venue: Minglanilla) and North communities (DBS) given separately by Sr. Debbie in 2006.
6. Seminar on “Writing Layouting for the School Newsmagazine” given by Sr. Debbie to DBS staffers, June 2007.
7. Media Education Seminar given by Sr. Debbie to CIAO Youth Camp Participants (August 2007); to MHCS-Can High School students and Faculty (September 2007); and to Montessori School Ayala-Alabang faculty and parents (September 2007).
Productions
1. FMA Lifeline, the magazine of St. Mary Mazzarello Province of the Philippines-Papua New Guinea, has issues thrice a year (May, September, and December). Sr. Debbie Ponsaran took over as Editor-in-Chief in January 2004 after Sr. Joyce Salvador.
2. The SOCCOM also helps in the production of various printed materials such as calendars, vocation promotion brochures and posters, etc.
 3. The Social Communications Equipe is in-charge of the various photo and video documentations of events in the province such as temporary and perpetual professions, summer camps, visits of General Councilors from Rome, CIAO conferences, Jubilee Celebration, Days of Spirituality, etc.
4. Laura Musicale was staged at the Meralco Theater, Manila on September 9, 10, 11, 12, 18, 19, and 25, 2004 with two shows per day. Sr. Joyce Salvador coordinated the musicale and with her were Sr. Arly Reyes (scriptwriter), Don Rivera (director), Alejandro Consolacion III (musical director and composer), and Sr. Alma Asparen who also helped in the casting.

Others
1. Sr. Debbie Ponsaran sent communication updates to all the communities regarding film reviews and ratings (moral and technical) and credible websites of film reviews; powerpoint on media education, salesianity, and prayers; and addresses of useful websites.
2. Sr. Debbie Ponsaran presented her thesis “Effects of Media and Communication Technology on Salesian Spirituality” in the 3rd Graduate Research Congress held at Trinity University for Asia last August 2007 and to the graduate students at Assumption College last October 2007.
3. Sr. Arly Reyes, SOCCOM member, started the inventory of the SOCCOM office in 2005 and Sr. Debbie completed it last June 2007.
